Anchor&Arrow is the musical collaboration of husband and wife Matt Dashem and Jennifer Henry-Dashem. Their unique sound is an upbeat mix of soul, funk, rock, and jazz: a culmination of many years of their individual musical styles and experience. They are known for putting their own twists on familiar tunes, blending styles, and swapping genres with ease and originality.
According to the Centre Daily Times, "There are lots of bands in the Centre Region, ranging from acoustic covers for relaxing bars scenes to died-in the wool singer-songwriter soul-shining goodness. Anchor & Arrow is somewhere in between all of that, definitely on the fun side of spectrum, but without compromising the artistic integrity of their craft."
About their music...
As Jenn said in the CDT interview, "Our original music can be described as a fusion of electronica, swing, funk and whatever we’re feeling any given day. We play a lot of covers at venues around town, but nothing is ever straight forward and it may take a while for the listener to realize what song it is then it can suddenly hop the tracks to a totally different song that may have the bones of a similar chord progression.”
Here's how Kevin Briggs, the reporter for the CDT, described their recent EP "Jumble."
"It’s definitely upbeat, and it was easy enough to hear the influence of different styles and genres, which all come together in what seems to me to be a danceable, New Orleans inspired, jazzy, stomping mash, which drives the music forward at live shows.
Anchor&Arrow appears regularly in Central Pennsylvania at the American Ale House & Grill, Big Spring Spirits, Otto’s Pub and Brewery, Shy Bear Brewery, Broken Axe Brew House, A’s Pub, Cafe 210 West, Doggie’s Pub and more, and they recorded their EP "Jumble" as part of the State Theater's "Sounds from the Attic" series.
