Lord forest is a "new" band. (Or is it?)
What makes a bad new? New combination of people? New play lists? New challenges? New fan base? I don't know, but I DO KNOW that this band is loving the freedom they are feeling to explore all of the above.
Local music fans will no doubt remember "Cone of Silence," the most popular band in our 12 year Moonstock history. Many of us grieved when "Cone" announced that they were breaking up to create opportunities to explore a broader range of music. But now that I see what that looks and sounds like, I'm happy.
Lord Forest consists of three former members of Cone of Silence, Steve Christensen on guitar, and vocals, Liz Grove on keyboards and vocals, and John Lynch on drums, flute, and vocals. And, they have added Sam Christensen on guitar and vocals. You may know Sam from recent appearances with Molly Countermine (of Ted & Molly) in "Honey Pie," a new local band that has become very popular at Boal City Brewing and that several of you have recommended to me). You may also have seen Sam in one of several performances at The State Theatre.
Lord Forest's set lists include songs from Steely Dan, The Beatles, Crosby, Stills & Nash, James Taylor, and The Beach Boys, and newer groups like Fleet Foxes.
I have seen Lord Forest twice already (as of 12/15/24) and I'm STRONGLY RECOMMENDING that you catch their act at Pine Grove Hall (downstairs) on December 19. The first two shows I saw were acoustic, upstairs at PGH. This one will be electric (downstairs on the stage using PGH's excellent lighting and sound systems) and should be fantastic. If you can make it, I'm SURE you won't be disappointed.
Because Lord Forest is a new band, there's not much to share yet, in terms of photos and audio files, but here's a link I found to a shared video recording of a bit of "In My Room" by The Beach Boys.
