Judson Mantz is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. Not just local singer/songwriters, I'm including all singer songwriters. He's a bright, deep, articulate, feeling individual, and an impressive artist. He's generous, too! He has offered some of his songs as free downloads at the August Room music webpage, and has allowed me to offer some of the free songs to you in the list below.
Jud's music is the culmination of more than 30 years of creation. It spans solo work and his work with bands including 3-D Betty and August Room. He has appeared at Moonstock for many years, with both 3-D Betty and August Room. This year, we'll be hearing from August room.
August Room is composed of long time friends and long time collaborators Judson Mantz (guitar and vocals), Lynn Chaplin (bass), John Lynch (percussion), Liz Grove (keyboards), and Steve Christensen (lead guitar). They enjoy playing together and always put on a great show.
You may also know Liz, Steve, and John from their shows with local superband "Cone of Silence," and you may recognize Liz and Steve as the proprietors of Pine Grove Hall (PGH), which is, in my opinion, the top location to see local talent and songwriters, and a great place to see traveling bands "up close and personal. (Moonstock is the best place for live music "in the greater Waddle Metropolitan area," but PGH takes the trophy if you cast the net wider.
This year is the TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY of their CD "Raucous Polyglot." and Judson has made it a free download. [CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE DOWNLOAD PAGE] I have been playing it as I drive around for the last few weeks, and I'm loving it. The songs are great, the musicianship is outstanding, and the quality of the production is first rate!
